Products and menu
Build a fast, consistent sales screen.
Keep product records clear, prices deliberate and the operator menu simple enough to use during a queue.
Product records
Use a unique product code, a clear customer-facing name, the current selling price and an active status. Avoid reusing an old product code for a different item because historical reports may still refer to it.
Pricing
Confirm whether displayed prices include GST and ensure receipts and advertised pricing use the same basis. Price changes should take effect intentionally and should not alter the meaning of completed historical sales.
Sales-menu layout
Place frequent products in the easiest positions, use consistent colours or categories and avoid filling the screen with rarely used options. Operators should be able to identify the correct item without relying on memory or very small text.
Inactive products
Deactivate products that are no longer sold rather than deleting records required for historical reporting. Confirm how inactive products appear in administration and whether they remain visible in completed transactions.
Pre-event review
Before trading, verify every visible product, price, label, position and tax treatment. Complete sample sales for common combinations and have the business owner approve the final menu.
Change control
Limit product and price editing to authorised roles. Record significant changes and avoid making broad menu alterations during active trading unless the operator impact is understood.
